TikTok Shop: A Giraffe Guide

In 2022, giving your customers a convenient way to buy your products is essential, and because of this, many brands are looking to set up a TikTok Shop. TikTok is the world’s largest short-form video-sharing platform, which naturally means it has a tonne of users.

And a tonne of users means, for brands all over the world, plenty of opportunity to sell their products to the millions of people using TikTok every day. Much like other large social networks, such as Instagram and Facebook, TikTok has given businesses the opportunity to directly reach and sell to their audience, right from the app.

In this guide, you’ll learn the simple steps to setting up a TikTok Shop for your business!

How to Set Up a TikTok Shop

TikTok Shop launch branding

Without a Tiktok Business account, you can’t set up a shop on the platforms. So, the very first step is to get yourself a TikTok Business account. You can either convert an existing account, or create one entirely from scratch. To do the latter, create one here.

Install the Right App for You

If you have a Shopify account, you can download the TikTok Shopify app to create video ads and manage your orders directly within Shopify. It integrates with TikTok Shopping and TikTok For Business Ads Manager, allowing you to track the results of your various campaigns.

For businesses with BigCommerce accounts, the TikTok for Business app is available for download. This app automatically installs the TikTok Pixel on your storefront, enabling you to easily track the results of your advertising campaigns.

You can choose to have customers complete their purchases within the TikTok app, or redirect them to your Shopify or BigCommerce account to finalise the transaction.

Tell the World About Your Business

Much like on Instagram, your bio is going to be the first thing people see when they visit your page, so you need to make the most of it. Your bio is the first chance you have to introduce your brand and give potential customers information about your business.

Take a few moments to think about what you want your audience to know about your business. A good practice is to consider what keywords your ideal customers will be searching for, and making use of them in your bio.

For example, if you sell handmade crafts, there’s a good chance people searching for, well, “handmade crafts” on TikTok would have an interest in purchasing your products – so make sure to include that keyword in your bio.

Optimising your TikTok Shop Products

It’s important to optimize your shopping tab, which will act as your TikTok storefront, to create a positive experience for users. Use high-quality images and ensure that the style is consistent with your brand’s overall presence, both on TikTok and other platforms.

Additionally, there’s a 34-character limit for titles in TikTok Shops, which means you need to be strategic in how you label your products. Make sure you’re clearly labelling items with the right keywords, making sure to not include any filler/unnecessary words.

In the product descriptions, include as many details about the items as possible. Keep in mind that links in product descriptions on TikTok are not clickable, so it’s best to avoid them altogether.

We also recommend setting up a shop on Instagram too, to make sure you’re giving your customers plenty of ways to make a purchase.

Start Selling!

Adding TikTok Shop products to your videos

Once you’ve got everything set up, it’s time to start promoting your products on TikTok. Luckily for us, TikTok allows you to directly embed products into our videos!

And, doing this is super simple!

When you’re getting a video ready to be posted, you’ll see the option to add a link directly below the caption section. Hit that link, and select one of your existing products. You have the option to customise the link that appears in the video. But don’t worry! Even if you change the text here, the title of your product will remain the same.
