We handle personal data under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), as amended.
We aim to use personal data lawfully, fairly and transparently; collect only what is relevant and necessary; keep it accurate; retain it only for as long as it is needed; and protect it with appropriate security measures.
Information we collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:
- contact and identity details, such as your name, organisation, job title, email address and telephone number;
- information you provide in an enquiry, form, application, survey or other communication;
- subscription preferences and information about how you engage with our email communications;
- records of correspondence and, where stated at the start of a call, recordings of calls to our sales team;
- technical and usage information, such as your IP address, browser, device, pages visited and cookie choices; and
- information you choose to provide when communicating with us through social media or another third-party platform.
Please do not send us sensitive personal data unless it is necessary and we have asked you to provide it.
How and why we use personal data
We may use personal data to respond to enquiries, provide and improve our services, manage client and supplier relationships, operate and secure the website, understand website and email performance, administer subscriptions, send relevant marketing communications, consider job applications, keep appropriate business records and meet legal or regulatory obligations.
Our lawful basis will depend on the purpose. We may rely on consent, performance of a contract or steps requested before entering a contract, compliance with a legal obligation, or our legitimate interests where those interests are not overridden by your rights. Our legitimate interests may include responding to enquiries, developing business relationships, improving our website and communications, and protecting our systems. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
Cookies and website analytics
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use necessary cookies to operate and secure the website and may use optional analytics or similar technologies to understand how visitors use it. Where consent is required, you can accept or reject optional cookies through the website’s cookie controls. You can also manage cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the website works.
For more information, including the cookies currently used on this website, please see our Cookie Policy.
Contacting us and call recordings
When you contact us, we use the information you provide to respond to you and deal with your request. Calls to our sales team may be recorded for internal training purposes where this is stated to you. These recordings are kept internally, are not shared for unrelated purposes and are deleted after six months.
Email marketing and Brevo
We use Brevo to manage subscriptions and send email marketing, including the Thinking Human newsletter. If you subscribe, we use your contact details, preferences and email engagement information to administer the mailing list and understand how our communications perform.
You can unsubscribe at any time by using the link in any marketing email or by contacting us. Unsubscribing will stop marketing messages, although we may retain a minimal suppression record so that we can respect your choice. Brevo’s own privacy information is available in its Privacy Policy.
Who we share personal data with
We may share personal data with trusted service providers that support our website, hosting, security, forms, analytics, customer relationship management and communications. These providers may process personal data only to provide their services to us and under appropriate contractual arrangements. We may also disclose information where required by law, to protect our legal rights, or in connection with a business sale or reorganisation.
We do not sell personal data.
International transfers
Some service providers may process personal data outside the United Kingdom. Where UK data protection law treats this as a restricted transfer, we use an applicable adequacy regulation or appropriate contractual safeguards and any additional measures required for the transfer.
How long we keep personal data
We keep personal data only for as long as it is needed for the purpose for which it was collected, including to provide services, respond to enquiries, maintain business and legal records, resolve disputes and meet legal obligations. Retention periods vary according to the type of information and our relationship with you. Marketing information is kept until you unsubscribe or we determine that it is no longer needed, subject to retaining a minimal suppression record.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
- ask us to erase or restrict the use of your information;
- object to processing based on legitimate interests or to direct marketing;
- receive certain information in a portable format; and
- withdraw consent where we rely on consent.
These rights are not absolute and exemptions may apply. To exercise a right, contact hello@giraffesocialmedia.co.uk. We may need to verify your identity before responding.

If you use a social sharing button, the relevant platform may receive information about your visit under its own terms and privacy policy.

We use organisational and technical measures designed to protect personal data against accidental loss, misuse, unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure. No website or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
